1998 Lexus LS — infotainment became glitchy after an OTA update

TorqueBuyer457Community StarterMay 2, 20261998 Lexus LS 400Philadelphia
1998 Lexus LS 400, about 237,500 miles. After a software update the screen occasionally reboots and one saved setting keeps resetting. Is there a normal post-update reset procedure owners should try before booking service? I am in Philadelphia. I am trying to get the facts straight before spending money.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 1998 Lexus LS, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

I went back under the 1998 Lexus LS and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 1998 Lexus LS does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Two 1998 Lexus LSs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Heat soak after errands is the other window.
