2004 Toyota Land Cruiser — when does GAP actually make sense?

TireCollectorCommunity StarterJun 21, 20262004 Toyota Land CruiserNorth Jersey
2004 Toyota Land Cruiser, about 227,000 miles. I am financing most of the purchase and depreciation could be steep early on. How do you decide whether GAP is worthwhile versus a larger down payment or buying coverage elsewhere? If I figure it out I will update the thread.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Agree — and I'd add this: A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser is enough reason to walk. That's where I'd start. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Quick add on that: If the 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. On “when does gap actually make sense,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.
