2006 Mazda RX-8 — long crank only after filling the fuel tank

The car starts normally most of the time, but after filling the tank it occasionally cranks longer and runs rough for a few seconds. Could EVAP/purge behavior cause this, and what would you test? I am in Sacramento. What would you check next?

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2006 Mazda RX-8, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2006 Mazda RX-8s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Move a coil or plug on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Loaded-suspension checks on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “8 — long crank only after filling,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

If it were in my driveway, two 2006 Mazda RX-8s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.
