2007 Toyota Camry — rebuilt-title price looks tempting

TorqueMomCommunity StarterJun 22, 20262007 Toyota Camry LELos Angeles
2007 Toyota Camry LE, about 207,500 miles. A rebuilt-title car is much cheaper than clean-title examples and appears professionally repaired. What should I think about beyond repair quality: insurance, financing, future resale and hidden damage?

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. In Los Angeles, insurance quotes flipped a 2007 Toyota Camry comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Yes, with one caveat: Call your insurer in Los Angeles before you fall in love with the 2007 Toyota Camry. If they balk, that's your answer. This is from a 2007 Toyota Camry in Los Angeles with 207,500 miles. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Sleeping on the number either way.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 2007 Toyota Camry is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “rebuilt-title price looks tempting,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Agree — and I'd add this: Ask for out-the-door on the 2007 Toyota Camry with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “rebuilt-title price looks tempting,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Ask for out-the-door on the 2007 Toyota Camry with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “rebuilt-title price looks tempting,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2007 Toyota Camry and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2007 Toyota Camry. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

If I were shopping this, if they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2007 Toyota Camry price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Was this after sitting overnight? Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Los Angeles before you fall in love with the 2007 Toyota Camry. Do that before you talk monthly again. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Same neighborhood, different next step: A written buyer’s order on the 2007 Toyota Camry is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If one piece looks too good on the 2007 Toyota Camry, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the title is messy I'm out, full stop.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. A written buyer’s order on the 2007 Toyota Camry is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “rebuilt-title price looks tempting,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. That's my plan before I call anyone.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2007 Toyota Camry quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Stop there until you know. I'll update if anything new shows up.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If one piece looks too good on the 2007 Toyota Camry, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2007 Toyota Camry and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. That's the whole play. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.
