2012 Honda Pilot — ticking noise follows RPM but fades when warm

2012 Honda Pilot EX-L, about 114,000 miles. There is a light ticking sound that follows engine speed for the first few minutes and then becomes hard to hear. Oil level is correct. How would you separate normal injector noise from valvetrain noise?

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2012 Honda Pilot is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2012 Honda Pilot does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2012 Honda Pilot if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Not driving it hard until I know more.

It did ticking noise follows rpm but fades when twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2012 Honda Pilot catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. No need to make it theatrical. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Asking because it changes the advice: Capture voltage while the 2012 Honda Pilot is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Ask what changed right before it started. Two 2012 Honda Pilots can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2012 Honda Pilot in Cleveland with 114,000 miles. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.
