2018 Honda Civic — should I negotiate the trade and purchase separately?

CamberTraveler327Community StarterMay 16, 20262018 Honda Civic SiPhiladelphia
I have a trade with some equity and I am buying another car. Dealer wants to talk only in payment numbers. Would you settle sale price first, then trade value, then financing so each piece stays visible? I am in Philadelphia.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Honda Civic price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Agree — and I'd add this: Ask for out-the-door on the 2018 Honda Civic with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “should i negotiate the trade and purchase,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If one piece looks too good on the 2018 Honda Civic, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Stop there until you know. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2018 Honda Civic with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. That's the sequence I'd use. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I would not stare at the monthly. If one piece looks too good on the 2018 Honda Civic, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2018 Honda Civic in Philadelphia. That's the whole play. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.
