2018 Mitsubishi Outlander — cheap project has enough margin to fix and resell?

EVDaily29Community StarterAug 27, 20262018 Mitsubishi Outlander SEHouston
2018 Mitsubishi Outlander SE, about 129,500 miles. I found a running car with cosmetic damage and deferred maintenance at a low price. Before treating it as a flip, how do you budget hidden repairs, title/registration, taxes, transport and selling time? I am in Houston. I am trying to get the facts straight before spending money. What would you check next?

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Houston before you fall in love with the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander. If they balk, that's your answer. Any freeze-frame data saved? Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “cheap project has enough margin to fix,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Any freeze-frame data saved? That's my plan before I call anyone.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. This is from a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander in Houston with 129,500 miles. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Sleeping on the number either way.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Call your insurer in Houston before you fall in love with the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “cheap project has enough margin to fix,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Asking because it changes the advice: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander in Houston with 129,500 miles. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander in Houston with 129,500 miles. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Houston changed the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander comparison more than the sale price did. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

On “cheap project has enough margin to fix,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I screenshotted the quote for later.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Call your insurer in Houston before you fall in love with the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander. Do that before you talk monthly again. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.
