2018 Toyota Camry — blower works on some speeds but not others

NewCarTuner625Community StarterMay 27, 20262018 Toyota Camry SESacramento
Cabin fan works normally on certain settings and then cuts out or changes speed unpredictably on others. Before replacing the blower motor, what should be checked in the resistor/controller circuit? Mostly looking for the right next step.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2018 Toyota Camry, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. No need to make it theatrical. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

OP update: scanned the 2018 Toyota Camry again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Quick add on that: A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2018 Toyota Camry is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “blower works on some speeds but not,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Two 2018 Toyota Camrys can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. No need to make it theatrical. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2018 Toyota Camry catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Was this after sitting overnight? I'd rather be boring and correct. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Capture voltage while the 2018 Toyota Camry is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2018 Toyota Camry, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Save the big job until that test fails. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2018 Toyota Camry catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “blower works on some speeds but not,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2018 Toyota Camry is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “blower works on some speeds but not,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2018 Toyota Camry first. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Ask what changed right before it started. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 Toyota Camry and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Sacramento. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Make the next action something you can finish this week. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Move a coil or plug on the 2018 Toyota Camry if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “blower works on some speeds but not,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Sacramento. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Checking again after work.
