2021 Lexus ES — would you buy an ex-rental car at the right price?

BoostMiles203Community StarterFeb 24, 20262021 Lexus ES 350NYC
A former rental is cheaper than privately owned examples and has frequent service records. Cosmetics show normal wear. What extra inspection points matter because of rental use?

Coming back with numbers — insurance in NYC changed the 2021 Lexus ES comparison more than the sale price did. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2021 Lexus ES and the doc fee was the tell. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2021 Lexus ES is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. If the 2021 Lexus ES still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. I'd do that before spending real money. On “would you buy an ex-rental car at,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2021 Lexus ES. I'd do that before spending real money. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Independent PPI on the 2021 Lexus ES is cheap insurance versus a seller who “already had a friend look at it.” That's where I'd start. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2021 Lexus ES, not a parking lot at night. I'd do that before spending real money. When does it actually happen? Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Title status is the whole conversation. If the 2021 Lexus ES still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. I'd do that before spending real money. Was this after sitting overnight? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Quick update: a second 2021 Lexus ES quote made the first offer look ordinary. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Quick update: a second 2021 Lexus ES quote made the first offer look ordinary. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. If the 2021 Lexus ES still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. I'd do that before spending real money. On “would you buy an ex-rental car at,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.
