2021 Mazda CX-5 — a/C is cold on the highway but warm at stoplights

EVBuyer929Community StarterAug 22, 20262021 Mazda CX-5 TurboSalt Lake City
2021 Mazda CX-5 Turbo, about 57,500 miles. The A/C works well with road speed but gets noticeably warmer at long lights, then cools again almost immediately once moving. Does that point more toward airflow/fan behavior than refrigerant level?

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I'll poke at it this weekend.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 first. Checking again after work.

Agree — and I'd add this: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. On “5 — a/c is cold on the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Ask what changed right before it started. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Ask what changed right before it started. Capture voltage while the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Salt Lake City with 57,500 miles. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. I'll poke at it this weekend.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Move a coil or plug on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Salt Lake City with 57,500 miles. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Salt Lake City with 57,500 miles. Do that first. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Move a coil or plug on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Do that first. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “5 — a/c is cold on the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Log the conditions before you spend. Two 2021 Mazda CX-5s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Save the big job until that test fails. On “5 — a/c is cold on the,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Two 2021 Mazda CX-5s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Salt Lake City with 57,500 miles. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Not convinced that's the whole story. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.
