2021 Mazda CX-5 — dealer lowered price but added accessories back in

V8ScoutCommunity StarterSep 20, 20252021 Mazda CX-5 TurboQueens
2021 Mazda CX-5 Turbo, about 96,000 miles. We agreed on a vehicle price, then the worksheet included dealer-installed products I did not ask for. The total is now higher than before. What is the cleanest way to negotiate from an out-the-door number?

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If one piece looks too good on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2021 Mazda CX-5 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Same neighborhood, different next step: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2021 Mazda CX-5 numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Not convinced that's the whole story. In Queens, insurance quotes flipped a 2021 Mazda CX-5 comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. On “5 — dealer lowered price but added,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “5 — dealer lowered price but added,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

On “5 — dealer lowered price but added,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If one piece looks too good on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In Queens, insurance quotes flipped a 2021 Mazda CX-5 comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Queens with 96,000 miles. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. In Queens, insurance quotes flipped a 2021 Mazda CX-5 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Ask for out-the-door on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Queens with 96,000 miles. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I would not stare at the monthly. If one piece looks too good on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2021 Mazda CX-5 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Do that first. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Quick add on that: Ask for out-the-door on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “5 — dealer lowered price but added,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Queens with 96,000 miles. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Quick update: a second 2021 Mazda CX-5 quote made the first offer look ordinary. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2021 Mazda CX-5 numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.
