2021 Toyota Highlander — dealer trade versus instant offer versus private sale

2021 Toyota Highlander XLE, about 45,500 miles. I am selling a clean late-model car and have three options: trade it, take an instant cash offer, or list privately. How do you decide when the extra private-party money is worth the time and risk?

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. If the 2021 Toyota Highlander still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. Then you'll know the next fork. On “dealer trade versus instant offer versus private,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. If the 2021 Toyota Highlander still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I'll update if anything new shows up.
