2023 Toyota 4Runner — winch size and recovery points before accessories

2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, about 33,500 miles. I am building a basic recovery setup and would rather get the fundamentals right than collect gear. How do you size a winch and evaluate factory versus aftermarket recovery points?

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 2023 Toyota 4Runner in Sacramento, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. That's where I'd start. On “winch size and recovery points before accessories,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Don't overfit one forum story to your car. If it still isn't clear on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. I'd do that before spending real money. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.
