2024 Lexus RX — huge doc fee: argue about fee or total price?

WrenchHunter732Community StarterJun 26, 20262024 Lexus RX 350hSan Antonio
2024 Lexus RX 350h, about 39,000 miles. One dealer documentation fee is much higher than others nearby. Is it better to stop arguing about the label and just negotiate the overall out-the-door number? I am in San Antonio. What would you check next?

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Lexus RX with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

If I were shopping this, in San Antonio, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Lexus RX comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

I'd push back a little: If one piece looks too good on the 2024 Lexus RX, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2024 Lexus RX and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 2024 Lexus RX, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Do that first. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.
