2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club — miata soft-top clicking over small bumps

TrailSeller62Community StarterJun 23, 20262024 Mazda MX-5 Miata ClubNashville
2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club, about 37,000 miles. Getting a repetitive click from around the roof/header area on rough pavement. Top seals look okay and it doesn't leak. Has anyone isolated a trim/latch/felt contact noise like this without replacing parts? Trying to diagnose before I book a shop.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Agree — and I'd add this: Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “5 miata club — miata soft-top clicking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

I'd push back a little: A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Ask what changed right before it started. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Capture voltage while the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “5 miata club — miata soft-top clicking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Quick add on that: Capture voltage while the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata in Nashville with 37,000 miles. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Two 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miatas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “5 miata club — miata soft-top clicking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If it were in my driveway, two 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miatas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Stop there until you know. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.
