2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SEL — new pads squeal more than the old ones

EVMiles31Community StarterMay 20, 20262024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SELNYC / Long Island
I replaced pads and rotors and now the brakes squeal at low speed even though stopping performance is good. Hardware was cleaned and lubricated. Is some noise normal during bedding or should I pull everything apart again? I'm in NYC / Long Island. Any data points from owners would help.

Log the conditions before you spend. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. On “new pads squeal more than the old,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

OP update: scanned the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Only after sitting overnight so far.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Ask what changed right before it started. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. The universe charges extra for guessing. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Do that first. I'd rather be boring and correct. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Yes, with one caveat: Two 2024 Mitsubishi Outlanders can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Capture voltage while the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander in NYC / Long Island. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “new pads squeal more than the old,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Capture voltage while the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Capture voltage while the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I'll poke at it this weekend.

If it were in my driveway, a pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander is losing coolant with no puddle. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander in NYC / Long Island. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'd rather be boring and correct. Checking again after work.
