2024 Ram 1500 Limited, about 9,000 miles. I am selling a clean late-model car and have three options: trade it, take an instant cash offer, or list privately. How do you decide when the extra private-party money is worth the time and risk? Interested in real owner experience more than guesses.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2024 Ram 1500. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2024 Ram 1500 in Raleigh with 9,000 miles. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. If the 2024 Ram 1500 still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. On “dealer trade versus instant offer versus private,” that was the fork that mattered for me. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Wrote this up on my lunch break.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2024 Ram 1500. That's where I'd start. Any freeze-frame data saved? Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Same neighborhood, different next step: If the 2024 Ram 1500 still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. Then you'll know the next fork. Was this after sitting overnight? PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2024 Ram 1500. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.
