2024 Toyota Tacoma — how much room below MSRP when inventory is normal? — trying to narrow this down

TireGal160Community StarterApr 22, 20262024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-RoadConnecticut
I am shopping a new car with several similar units sitting nearby. Dealer started at MSRP plus fees. What is the best way to use competing written quotes without turning the process into endless back-and-forth? Mileage is about 42,000.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. This is from a 2024 Toyota Tacoma in Connecticut. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

I asked about how much room below msrp when inventory again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. In Connecticut, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Toyota Tacoma comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Call your insurer in Connecticut before you fall in love with the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Was this after sitting overnight? Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Not convinced that's the whole story. In Connecticut, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 Toyota Tacoma comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2024 Toyota Tacoma quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Quick add on that: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Quick add on that: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Two 2024 Toyota Tacoma quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Any freeze-frame data saved? Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Toyota Tacoma numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. I screenshotted the quote for later.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. That's the whole play. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 Toyota Tacoma in Connecticut. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Agree — and I'd add this: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 Toyota Tacoma numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and the doc fee was the tell. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.
