2024 Toyota Tacoma — ticking noise follows RPM but fades when warm

OldSchoolMom518Community StarterJun 17, 20262024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-RoadSacramento
There is a light ticking sound that follows engine speed for the first few minutes and then becomes hard to hear. Oil level is correct. How would you separate normal injector noise from valvetrain noise? Mileage is about 58,000.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. That's the whole play. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Log the conditions before you spend. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “ticking noise follows rpm but fades when,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

If it were in my driveway, capture voltage while the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. That's my plan before I call anyone.

If it were in my driveway, if a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2024 Toyota Tacoma in Sacramento. That's the sequence I'd use. I refuse to clear codes until someone else sees them.

OP update: scanned the 2024 Toyota Tacoma again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

It did ticking noise follows rpm but fades when twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Two 2024 Toyota Tacomas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “ticking noise follows rpm but fades when,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Toyota Tacoma in Sacramento. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Toyota Tacoma does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.
