2025 Toyota Camry XSE — anyone else: Good independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection?

DetailNerdCommunity StarterJul 14, 20262025 Toyota Camry XSESan Diego
Looking at a used car locally and want a genuinely independent PPI, preferably someone familiar with this brand. What do you ask the shop to include besides a basic scan and lift inspection? If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2025 Toyota Camry. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2025 Toyota Camry numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2025 Toyota Camry and the doc fee was the tell. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2025 Toyota Camry price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2025 Toyota Camry in San Diego. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

I asked about anyone else: good independent shop for a again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Yes, with one caveat: Call your insurer in San Diego before you fall in love with the 2025 Toyota Camry. If they balk, that's your answer. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

I would not stare at the monthly. If one piece looks too good on the 2025 Toyota Camry, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. Two 2025 Toyota Camry quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

If I were shopping this, if they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2025 Toyota Camry price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2025 Toyota Camry numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Quick update: a second 2025 Toyota Camry quote made the first offer look ordinary. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Fair point. Counterpoint: If one piece looks too good on the 2025 Toyota Camry, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Quick add on that: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2025 Toyota Camry so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. On “anyone else: good independent shop for a,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2025 Toyota Camry with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2025 Toyota Camry price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2025 Toyota Camry numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. On “anyone else: good independent shop for a,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2025 Toyota Camry in San Diego. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Wrote this up on my lunch break.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2025 Toyota Camry and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.
