Anyone else: Buy a welder or bigger air compressor first?

PistonRoadie40Community StarterMay 30, 20262006 Mazda RX-8 SportConnecticut
2006 Mazda RX-8 Sport, about 62,000 miles. I do mostly home automotive work and can only justify one major shop purchase this year. Existing small compressor handles tires but not sustained air tools. Welder would unlock fabrication. Which one changed your garage more? Trying to diagnose before I book a shop.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 (62,000 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2006 Mazda RX-8 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Ask for out-the-door on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “buy a welder or bigger air compressor,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2006 Mazda RX-8 in Connecticut with 62,000 miles. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

If I were shopping this, two 2006 Mazda RX-8 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. That's the whole play. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2006 Mazda RX-8 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2006 Mazda RX-8 in Connecticut with 62,000 miles. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Two 2006 Mazda RX-8 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2006 Mazda RX-8 in Connecticut with 62,000 miles. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2006 Mazda RX-8 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. A written buyer’s order on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Quick update: a second 2006 Mazda RX-8 quote made the first offer look ordinary. I screenshotted the quote for later.
