Anyone else: Would you pay more for documentation than lower mileage?

CanyonPilot62Community StarterJul 31, 20262023 Toyota 4Runner TRD ProChicago
2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro, about 22,000 miles. Comparing two older enthusiast cars: one has lower mileage but thin history, the other has higher mileage with years of invoices and owner notes. Assuming both inspect well, how much value do you put on records? Trying to diagnose before I book a shop.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If one piece looks too good on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Ask for out-the-door on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. Any freeze-frame data saved? I'd rather be boring and correct. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2023 Toyota 4Runner quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2023 Toyota 4Runner quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Then the comparison gets honest. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2023 Toyota 4Runner. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. This is from a 2023 Toyota 4Runner in Chicago with 22,000 miles. Stop there until you know. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2023 Toyota 4Runner numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “would you pay more for documentation than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' That's my plan before I call anyone.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

If I were shopping this, i would not wire money until I've seen the 2023 Toyota 4Runner and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Was this after sitting overnight? Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Call your insurer in Chicago before you fall in love with the 2023 Toyota 4Runner. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “would you pay more for documentation than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2023 Toyota 4Runner in Chicago with 22,000 miles. Parts cannon is a personality type I try to avoid. I screenshotted the quote for later.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2023 Toyota 4Runner comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Chicago before you fall in love with the 2023 Toyota 4Runner. If they balk, that's your answer. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. I'd rather be boring and correct. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

If I were shopping this, if one piece looks too good on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2023 Toyota 4Runner numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “would you pay more for documentation than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner (22,000 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Make the next action something you can finish this week. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Not convinced that's the whole story. In Chicago, insurance quotes flipped a 2023 Toyota 4Runner comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Asking because it changes the advice: If one piece looks too good on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Do that first. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Quick update: a second 2023 Toyota 4Runner quote made the first offer look ordinary. I screenshotted the quote for later.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2023 Toyota 4Runner notes. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. A written buyer’s order on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “would you pay more for documentation than,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.
