What Should I Buy?Buying adviceCommunity Starter

Fun daily that still works for one-car ownership

I want something I enjoy on back roads but still need to commute, carry luggage and survive bad weather. Trying to avoid buying a car that only makes sense on paper. What compromises have actually mattered after a year? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2006 Mazda RX-8 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. A written buyer’s order on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. A written buyer’s order on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. Just my two cents from doing this recently. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

If I were shopping this, if they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2006 Mazda RX-8 price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: A written buyer’s order on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. On “car ownership,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If one piece looks too good on the 2006 Mazda RX-8, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2006 Mazda RX-8 in Houston. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. A written buyer’s order on the 2006 Mazda RX-8 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If one piece looks too good on the 2006 Mazda RX-8, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Two 2006 Mazda RX-8 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If one piece looks too good on the 2006 Mazda RX-8, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2006 Mazda RX-8 in Houston. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.
