Need advice: CX-5 turbo oil level drops before service interval

GarageGarage53Community StarterMay 25, 20262021 Mazda CX-5 TurboPortland
I'm seeing the oil level fall enough between services that I now check it regularly. No obvious leak. For other turbo owners, what documentation/tests did you collect before bringing an oil-consumption concern to the dealer? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

Ask what changed right before it started. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Portland. Was this after sitting overnight? Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

If it were in my driveway, two 2021 Mazda CX-5s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Do that first. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “cx-5 turbo oil level drops before service,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? I'll update if anything new shows up.

Ask what changed right before it started. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. That's the whole play. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does it — then decide on parts. That's the branch I'd chase this week. When does it actually happen? Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. That's the whole play. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Save the big job until that test fails. Do that first. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Do that first. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2021 Mazda CX-5s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Just my two cents from doing this recently. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “cx-5 turbo oil level drops before service,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 first. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.
