Question: Miata soft-top clicking over small bumps

MileageNomadCommunity StarterMay 3, 20262024 Mazda MX-5 Miata ClubSalt Lake City
2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club, about 14,500 miles. Getting a repetitive click from around the roof/header area on rough pavement. Top seals look okay and it doesn't leak. Has anyone isolated a trim/latch/felt contact noise like this without replacing parts? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Two 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miatas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “miata soft-top clicking over small bumps,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata in Salt Lake City with 14,500 miles. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata and see if the fault moves. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'll poke at it this weekend.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Two 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miatas can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. Save the big job until that test fails. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Yes, with one caveat: If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

It did miata soft-top clicking over small bumps twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Doing the boring step first on purpose.
