Question: New pads squeal more than the old ones

ShiftCommuterCommunity StarterFeb 22, 20262023 Acura Integra A-SpecCentral Florida
I replaced pads and rotors and now the brakes squeal at low speed even though stopping performance is good. Hardware was cleaned and lubricated. Is some noise normal during bedding or should I pull everything apart again? I'm in Central Florida. If I fix it I'll come back and update the thread.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Move a coil or plug on the 2023 Acura Integra if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2023 Acura Integra does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Update: the cheap test changed the symptom, so I'm not throwing parts yet. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Move a coil or plug on the 2023 Acura Integra if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2023 Acura Integra in Central Florida. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

Asking because it changes the advice: Move a coil or plug on the 2023 Acura Integra if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Save the big job until that test fails. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2023 Acura Integra is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2023 Acura Integra does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Log the conditions before you spend. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2023 Acura Integra and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “new pads squeal more than the old,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Log the conditions before you spend. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 Acura Integra catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Save the big job until that test fails. On “new pads squeal more than the old,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 Acura Integra catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Only after sitting overnight so far.

Ask what changed right before it started. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 Acura Integra catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2023 Acura Integra catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Save the big job until that test fails. On “new pads squeal more than the old,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Wrote this up on my lunch break.
