1988 Toyota Land Cruiser — humming rises with road speed, not engine RPM

1988 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62, about 156,500 miles. There is a low hum that rises with road speed regardless of engine RPM. Turning slightly left or right changes the sound. Is that enough to suspect a wheel bearing, or what else should I rule out?

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser in Boston, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. That's where I'd start. On “humming rises with road speed, not engine,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.
