Question: Delayed engagement into Drive when cold

On cold mornings, shifting from Park to Drive takes a second or two before the car actually engages. Once warm it's instant and shifts fine. Fluid level/condition is my first thought, but what else should I check? I'd rather test this logically than start replacing parts.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2025 BMW M3 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Checked the easy stuff on the 2025 BMW M3 and found one clue worth chasing before I book a shop. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Ask what changed right before it started. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2025 BMW M3 does it — then decide on parts. Save the big job until that test fails. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Only after sitting overnight so far.

If it were in my driveway, swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2025 BMW M3 and see if the fault moves. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2025 BMW M3 in Sacramento. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Wrote this up on my lunch break.
