Delayed engagement into Drive when cold

CanyonPilot62Community StarterSep 4, 20262024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C300Boston / New England
2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C300, about 78,000 miles. On cold mornings, shifting from Park to Drive takes a second or two before the car actually engages. Once warm it's instant and shifts fine. Fluid level/condition is my first thought, but what else should I check? Appreciate any ideas on what to check first.

Ask what changed right before it started. Capture voltage while the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Log the conditions before you spend. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. On “delayed engagement into drive when cold,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

If it were in my driveway, a pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is losing coolant with no puddle. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

I'd push back a little: Move a coil or plug on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Log the conditions before you spend. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “delayed engagement into drive when cold,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'll poke at it this weekend.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I'll update if anything new shows up.

OP update: scanned the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. That's my plan before I call anyone.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class first. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. This is from a 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class in Boston / New England with 78,000 miles. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I went back under the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class and it only happens after a heat soak, not on a cold start. Parking it somewhere I can hear it better next time.

Same neighborhood, different next step: A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Agree — and I'd add this: Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class does it — then decide on parts. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “delayed engagement into drive when cold,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class in Boston / New England with 78,000 miles. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Two 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Classs can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class in Boston / New England with 78,000 miles. Monthly payment math is how wallets disappear. I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

It did delayed engagement into drive when cold twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. That's my plan before I call anyone.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Checking again after work.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. This is from a 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class in Boston / New England with 78,000 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Only after sitting overnight so far.
