2004 Honda S2000 — 50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? — second opinion before I spend money

I just crossed 50k miles and want to log maintenance, unscheduled repairs, tire life, fuel economy, dealer visits, annoyances and whether I would buy the same car again. I am in Las Vegas.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Ask for out-the-door on the 2004 Honda S2000 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2004 Honda S2000. Sleeping on the number either way.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2004 Honda S2000 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. That's the sequence I'd use. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2004 Honda S2000 price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2004 Honda S2000 in Las Vegas. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2004 Honda S2000 price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. In Las Vegas, insurance quotes flipped a 2004 Honda S2000 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Quick update: a second 2004 Honda S2000 quote made the first offer look ordinary. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Yes, with one caveat: A written buyer’s order on the 2004 Honda S2000 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? —,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. I screenshotted the quote for later.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2004 Honda S2000. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

This is from a 2004 Honda S2000 in Las Vegas. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2004 Honda S2000 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. Stop there until you know. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. In Las Vegas, insurance quotes flipped a 2004 Honda S2000 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. No need to make it theatrical. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. Two 2004 Honda S2000 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. That's the whole play. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Las Vegas changed the 2004 Honda S2000 comparison more than the sale price did. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2004 Honda S2000 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “50,000-mile ownership report: what actually broke? —,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' That's my plan before I call anyone.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. In Las Vegas, insurance quotes flipped a 2004 Honda S2000 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If one piece looks too good on the 2004 Honda S2000, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.
