2012 Honda Pilot — is this actually a good used-car deal?

CommuterDetailer973Community StarterDec 14, 20252012 Honda Pilot EX-LMiami
The online price looks competitive, but I am trying to judge the entire deal rather than the headline number. What should I compare besides mileage, history, condition and a PPI before deciding what it is worth?

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Call your insurer in Miami before you fall in love with the 2012 Honda Pilot. If they balk, that's your answer. That's the sequence I'd use. Sleeping on the number either way.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2012 Honda Pilot so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “is this actually a good used-car deal,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2012 Honda Pilot. Sleeping on the number either way.

If I were shopping this, in Miami, insurance quotes flipped a 2012 Honda Pilot comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Stop there until you know. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I would not stare at the monthly. If one piece looks too good on the 2012 Honda Pilot, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2012 Honda Pilot in Miami. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

OP here. Still looking, but I'm waiting on inspection notes before I send money on the 2012 Honda Pilot. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2012 Honda Pilot so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. On “is this actually a good used-car deal,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

I would not stare at the monthly. In Miami, insurance quotes flipped a 2012 Honda Pilot comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2012 Honda Pilot and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Miami changed the 2012 Honda Pilot comparison more than the sale price did. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In Miami, insurance quotes flipped a 2012 Honda Pilot comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. When does it actually happen? Doc fee is the line I'm watching.
