2013 Toyota Prius Three, about 182,000 miles. After owning the car for a while, tires, insurance and service pricing mattered more than the MPG difference I obsessed over before buying. What ownership costs surprised you most?

Owner notes beat generic advice here. On the 2013 Toyota Prius in New Jersey, I'd fix the thing you'll notice every day before chasing spec-sheet extras. That's where I'd start. On “costs that mattered more than fuel economy,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Take it or leave it — that's what I'd do. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I'd keep this practical. Verify the cheap/easy branch on the 2013 Toyota Prius before a big repair or a big spend. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2013 Toyota Prius in New Jersey with 182,000 miles. Stop there until you know. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Fair point. Counterpoint: If it still isn't clear on the 2013 Toyota Prius, a specialist hour can be cheaper than another round of parts. I'd do that before spending real money. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.
