2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee — what current car has future-classic potential without hype? — California owner

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, about 122,000 miles. Ignoring limited-production supercars, which current or recent cars have the ingredients collectors may care about later: drivetrain, design, rarity, enthusiast following, manual availability or a unique platform?

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and see if the fault moves. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Move a coil or plug on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee does it — then decide on parts. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee in California with 122,000 miles. Do that first. If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

It did what current car has future-classic potential without twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Checking again after work.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. That's the whole play. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Log the conditions before you spend. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Did the worksheet show tax yet? Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee in California with 122,000 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Two 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokees can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

If it were in my driveway, move a coil or plug on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I'd rather be boring and correct. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.

Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If it repeats twice more I'll book time.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is losing coolant with no puddle. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. This is from a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee in California with 122,000 miles. That's the whole play. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Ask what changed right before it started. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Cleared nothing. I want service to see the alert on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee first. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “what current car has future-classic potential without,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Just my two cents from doing this recently. Happens in gear, not in park, for what that's worth.
