2018 Cadillac CTS-V — going one inch smaller for winter wheels

This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 2018 Cadillac CTS-V, about 62,000 miles. I want smaller winter wheels for more sidewall. Overall tire diameter can stay close, but I am worried about caliper and spoke clearance. What measurements should be checked before ordering? Mostly looking for the right next step.

This is a climate question as much as a tire question. In Tampa, dedicated winters on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. I'd do that before spending real money. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Heat soak after errands is the other window.
