2018 Cadillac CTS-V — steering wheel shakes only under highway braking

BrakeCollector333Community StarterJun 24, 20262018 Cadillac CTS-VTexas
2018 Cadillac CTS-V, about 123,500 miles. Cruising is smooth, but braking from highway speed makes the steering wheel shake. Pads still have material. Would you start with rotor runout/thickness variation, hub condition or suspension bushings? I am in Texas.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Was this after sitting overnight? I'd rather be boring and correct. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V and see if the fault moves. That's the branch I'd chase this week. That's the whole play. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Asking because it changes the advice: Get a real battery/charging test on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

Ask what changed right before it started. Move a coil or plug on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

Intermittent stuff lies if you only catch it once. Capture voltage while the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “v — steering wheel shakes only under,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 Cadillac CTS-V and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Any freeze-frame data saved? If it repeats twice more I'll book time.
