2018 Chevrolet Tahoe — rolling negative equity into another car

ColdStartFan202Community StarterApr 18, 20262018 Chevrolet Tahoe LTTexas
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe LT, about 44,500 miles. Current car is worth less than the payoff and I need something different. Dealer says they can roll the difference into the new loan. I am trying to understand how ugly the math gets before doing that.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. Two 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Was this after sitting overnight? Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. If they balk, that's your answer. Any freeze-frame data saved? If this is nothing, great. I want that in data.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Ask for out-the-door on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “rolling negative equity into another car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Texas with 44,500 miles. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Texas with 44,500 miles. That's the whole play. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I'll update if anything new shows up.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Call your insurer in Texas before you fall in love with the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe. If they balk, that's your answer. Stop there until you know. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Yes, with one caveat: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “rolling negative equity into another car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Texas with 44,500 miles. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. A written buyer’s order on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. Do that first. Sleeping on the number either way.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If one piece looks too good on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Texas with 44,500 miles. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. A written buyer’s order on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” If they balk, that's your answer. On “rolling negative equity into another car,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

Asking because it changes the advice: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

I'd push back a little: I would not wire money until I've seen the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Any freeze-frame data saved? If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

This is from a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe in Texas with 44,500 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.
