2018 Subaru Forester — going one inch smaller for winter wheels

BatteryCommuter524Community StarterSep 4, 20262018 Subaru Forester 2.5iCleveland
I want smaller winter wheels for more sidewall. Overall tire diameter can stay close, but I am worried about caliper and spoke clearance. What measurements should be checked before ordering? I am in Cleveland. Interested in real owner experience more than guesses.

Salt and cold mornings punish cheap shortcuts. In Cleveland, dedicated winters on the 2018 Subaru Forester paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. That's where I'd start. On “going one inch smaller for winter wheels,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2018 Subaru Forester in Cleveland. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If Cleveland only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2018 Subaru Forester can be the saner daily. That's where I'd start.
