2018 Toyota Camry — a/C is cold on the highway but warm at stoplights

2018 Toyota Camry SE, about 48,000 miles. The A/C works well with road speed but gets noticeably warmer at long lights, then cools again almost immediately once moving. Does that point more toward airflow/fan behavior than refrigerant level?

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2018 Toyota Camry is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Just my two cents from doing this recently. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

If it were in my driveway, if a shop can't duplicate it on the 2018 Toyota Camry, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. I'd rather be boring and correct. Heat soak after errands is the other window.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Two 2018 Toyota Camrys can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “a/c is cold on the highway but,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Northern Virginia with 48,000 miles. Stop there until you know. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Ask what changed right before it started. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2018 Toyota Camry, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Capture voltage while the 2018 Toyota Camry is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Save the big job until that test fails. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2018 Toyota Camry and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'll update if anything new shows up.
