2018 Toyota Camry — going one inch smaller for winter wheels

TrailWrench101Community StarterNov 5, 20252018 Toyota Camry SEBaltimore
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. I want smaller winter wheels for more sidewall. Overall tire diameter can stay close, but I am worried about caliper and spoke clearance. What measurements should be checked before ordering? I am in Baltimore.

This is a climate question as much as a tire question. In Baltimore, dedicated winters on the 2018 Toyota Camry paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. That's where I'd start. On “going one inch smaller for winter wheels,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the whole play. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Salt and cold mornings punish cheap shortcuts. In Baltimore, dedicated winters on the 2018 Toyota Camry paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. I'd do that before spending real money. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Baltimore. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. If Baltimore only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2018 Toyota Camry can be the saner daily. That's where I'd start. No need to make it theatrical. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Yes, with one caveat: Watch brake clearance and overall diameter if you downsize winter wheels on the 2018 Toyota Camry. That's where I'd start. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. This is the version I'd tell a friend.
