2018 Toyota Camry — online auction photos barely show the underside — Columbus owner

SunBeltHunter540Community StarterAug 10, 20262018 Toyota Camry SEColumbus
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 2018 Toyota Camry SE, about 143,500 miles. Auction listing has lots of cosmetic photos and records, but not much underneath. For an older enthusiast car, what questions or photos would you request before bidding remotely?

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Call your insurer in Columbus before you fall in love with the 2018 Toyota Camry. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “online auction photos barely show the underside,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

I'd push back a little: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Toyota Camry price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Columbus with 143,500 miles. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Asking because it changes the advice: If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2018 Toyota Camry price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Quick add on that: Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2018 Toyota Camry so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Columbus with 143,500 miles. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Not trying to scare you — just skip the expensive first guess. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Quick update: a second 2018 Toyota Camry quote made the first offer look ordinary. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

If I were shopping this, in Columbus, insurance quotes flipped a 2018 Toyota Camry comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. In Columbus, insurance quotes flipped a 2018 Toyota Camry comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Fair point. Counterpoint: If one piece looks too good on the 2018 Toyota Camry, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Columbus with 143,500 miles. Any freeze-frame data saved? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. I'll update if anything new shows up.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2018 Toyota Camry and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2018 Toyota Camry in Columbus with 143,500 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2018 Toyota Camry and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2018 Toyota Camry numbers without them. Do that before you talk monthly again. Was this after sitting overnight? This is the version I'd tell a friend.

I hear you, though I'd still want a second check. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2018 Toyota Camry numbers without them. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “online auction photos barely show the underside,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2018 Toyota Camry so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “online auction photos barely show the underside,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. I screenshotted the quote for later.

I'd want competing paper, not competing stories. Ask for out-the-door on the 2018 Toyota Camry with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'd rather be boring and correct. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Call your insurer in Columbus before you fall in love with the 2018 Toyota Camry. Do that before you talk monthly again. I would not stare at the monthly. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2018 Toyota Camry and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2018 Toyota Camry notes. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.
