2019 Mazda Mazda3 — coolant is old by age but mileage is low — trying to narrow this down

2019 Mazda Mazda3 Preferred, about 95,500 miles. The vehicle has relatively few miles but the coolant is several years old. I am trying to prioritize maintenance by actual risk. Would you replace based on time alone? Interested in real owner experience more than guesses.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Two 2019 Mazda Mazda3s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Doing the boring step first on purpose.

Log the conditions before you spend. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2019 Mazda Mazda3 and see if the fault moves. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “coolant is old by age but mileage,” that was the fork that mattered for me. That's the sequence I'd use. I'll poke at it this weekend.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2019 Mazda Mazda3 and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. No need to make it theatrical. No warning lights, which is why I'm documenting it.

OP update: scanned the 2019 Mazda Mazda3 again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

It did coolant is old by age but mileage twice this week, both times after sitting. No change in mileage feel. Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2019 Mazda Mazda3 is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. No need to make it theatrical. Video is ugly but it shows the hesitation.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2019 Mazda Mazda3, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

If it were in my driveway, if a shop can't duplicate it on the 2019 Mazda Mazda3, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. When does it actually happen? I'd rather be boring and correct. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Move a coil or plug on the 2019 Mazda Mazda3 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. That's the branch I'd chase this week. No need to make it theatrical. I keep a notes app thread for this now.

If it were in my driveway, write temp, speed, and in-gear vs coast when the 2019 Mazda Mazda3 does it — then decide on parts. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. This is the version I'd tell a friend.
