2020 BMW M2 — single-cylinder misfire comes and goes

DealGeek577Community StarterSep 3, 20262020 BMW M2 CompetitionHouston
This started as a small annoyance and I finally decided to track it down. 2020 BMW M2 Competition, about 120,500 miles. A cylinder-specific misfire code appeared after one rough start, then cleared and the engine feels normal. Plugs are not very old. Would you swap coils, inspect plugs, look at injector data, or wait for it to return?

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2020 BMW M2 and see if the fault moves. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Any freeze-frame data saved? I keep a notes app thread for this now.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2020 BMW M2 and see if the fault moves. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. That's the sequence I'd use. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Move a coil or plug on the 2020 BMW M2 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Cold start is when I can actually reproduce it.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2020 BMW M2, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2020 BMW M2 in Houston with 120,500 miles. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2020 BMW M2 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. On “single-cylinder misfire comes and goes,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.
