2020 BMW M2 — steering wheel shakes only under highway braking — Miami owner

Cruising is smooth, but braking from highway speed makes the steering wheel shake. Pads still have material. Would you start with rotor runout/thickness variation, hub condition or suspension bushings? I am in Miami.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2020 BMW M2, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. That's the branch I'd chase this week. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2020 BMW M2 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “steering wheel shakes only under highway braking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Any freeze-frame data saved? Not interested in a five-hour wait for a shrug.

Agree — and I'd add this: Capture voltage while the 2020 BMW M2 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “steering wheel shakes only under highway braking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Not driving it hard until I know more.

On “steering wheel shakes only under highway braking,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. Not driving it hard until I know more.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Capture voltage while the 2020 BMW M2 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

If it were in my driveway, a pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2020 BMW M2 is losing coolant with no puddle. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. When does it actually happen? Heat soak after errands is the other window.

If it were in my driveway, swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2020 BMW M2 and see if the fault moves. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. I'll poke at it this weekend.

Ask what changed right before it started. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2020 BMW M2 is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. Do that first. That's coming from doing this as an owner, not a shop. Not driving it hard until I know more.

I wouldn't throw parts yet. Swap the cheap/easy piece first on the 2020 BMW M2 and see if the fault moves. Save the big job until that test fails. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Not driving it hard until I know more.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. If a shop can't duplicate it on the 2020 BMW M2, bring a video plus freeze-frame data, not just a story. Save the big job until that test fails. That's the whole play. This is the version I'd tell a friend.
