2021 Audi A6 — going one inch smaller for winter wheels

TorqueBuyer304Community StarterMar 1, 20262021 Audi A6 PrestigeNew York
I want smaller winter wheels for more sidewall. Overall tire diameter can stay close, but I am worried about caliper and spoke clearance. What measurements should be checked before ordering? I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

Salt and cold mornings punish cheap shortcuts. In New York, dedicated winters on the 2021 Audi A6 paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. I'd do that before spending real money. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'd rather pay for diagnosis than a second guess-repair.

Asking because it changes the advice: In New York, dedicated winters on the 2021 Audi A6 paid off more than I expected on ice, even on plowed roads. Then you'll know the next fork. This is from a 2021 Audi A6 in New York. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. I'd rather look cautious in this thread than stuck later.

I parked the 2021 Audi A6 and wrote down what I already tested so I'm not repeating myself. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

I'd pick the setup I'll actually live with in slush. If New York only sees a few real storms, a good all-weather on the 2021 Audi A6 can be the saner daily. I'd do that before spending real money. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.
