2021 Mazda CX-5 — single-cylinder misfire comes and goes

MarketDIYer793Community StarterJun 15, 20262021 Mazda CX-5 TurboDallas
2021 Mazda CX-5 Turbo, about 75,500 miles. A cylinder-specific misfire code appeared after one rough start, then cleared and the engine feels normal. Plugs are not very old. Would you swap coils, inspect plugs, look at injector data, or wait for it to return? I am in Dallas. What would you check next?

If it were in my driveway, loaded-suspension checks on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. If the cheap test changes it, stop and reassess. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. I'd rather be boring and correct. Next check is the cheap one I can do in a driveway.

I'd want a measurement, not a hunch. Two 2021 Mazda CX-5s can feel identical and have different causes, so measure before you copy someone else's repair. That's the branch I'd chase this week. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Dallas with 75,500 miles. Any freeze-frame data saved? Only after sitting overnight so far.

Ask what changed right before it started. Get a real battery/charging test on the 2021 Mazda CX-5, not just resting voltage, before blaming a module. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Did the worksheet show tax yet? If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

This is usually cheaper to test than to guess. A pressure test beats staring at a dry driveway if the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is losing coolant with no puddle. Save the big job until that test fails. Any freeze-frame data saved? A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I already checked the easy fluid levels.

OP update: scanned the 2021 Mazda CX-5 again and still only have the one pending code, no new lights. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.

Log the conditions before you spend. Capture voltage while the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. That's the branch I'd chase this week. On “5 — single-cylinder misfire comes and goes,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Start with the test that can prove you wrong. Capture voltage while the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. This is from a 2021 Mazda CX-5 in Dallas with 75,500 miles. When does it actually happen? Worth doing even if the car feels fine right now. That's my plan before I call anyone.

Not convinced that's the whole story. Loaded-suspension checks on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 catch play that a wheels-hanging inspection misses. You'll know quickly if you're on the wrong tree. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Only after sitting overnight so far.

I'd push back a little: Capture voltage while the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is actually failing — after it restarts you've lost the clue. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Trying not to diagnose from the couch.

Log the conditions before you spend. Move a coil or plug on the 2021 Mazda CX-5 if it's cylinder-specific and see whether the code follows. Don't erase codes until someone who can help has seen them. On “5 — single-cylinder misfire comes and goes,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Stop there until you know. If that fails I'll eat the diagnostic fee.
