2022 BMW X3 — how much does an old accident hurt resale?

RoadMom737Community StarterJul 15, 20262022 BMW X3 M40iBoston
Car was repaired well after a moderate accident and drives straight. I am trying to price it honestly several years later. How much do buyers usually discount history compared with equivalent clean-history cars?

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Call your insurer in Boston before you fall in love with the 2022 BMW X3. If they balk, that's your answer. On “how much does an old accident hurt,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2022 BMW X3 in Boston. Do that first. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2022 BMW X3 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how much does an old accident hurt,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 BMW X3 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. Run the total, not the monthly, before you commit. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in Boston before you fall in love with the 2022 BMW X3. Do that before you talk monthly again. That's the sequence I'd use. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Update from me: I finally have sale price, fees, and trade on separate lines for the 2022 BMW X3. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I would not stare at the monthly. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 BMW X3 price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. Make the next action something you can finish this week. Not wiring anything in the meantime.

I would not stare at the monthly. In Boston, insurance quotes flipped a 2022 BMW X3 comparison for me more than the sale price did. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. If you share a photo of the worksheet, easier to sanity-check. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Quick update: a second 2022 BMW X3 quote made the first offer look ordinary. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2022 BMW X3 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. This is from a 2022 BMW X3 in Boston. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Not convinced that's the whole story. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 BMW X3 price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. Write the result down so the next test isn't a repeat of the last one. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

If I were shopping this, in Boston, insurance quotes flipped a 2022 BMW X3 comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. No need to make it theatrical. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Keep sale price, trade, and financing split on the 2022 BMW X3 so a “good payment” cannot bury a worse deal. Do that before you talk monthly again. That's the sequence I'd use. Sleeping on the number either way.

Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.
