Someone interested in my car insists I buy a report from a specific unfamiliar website before they will meet. Is this a common scam pattern and what information should I avoid entering?

Title status is the whole conversation. If the 2022 Cadillac Escalade still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. This is from a 2022 Cadillac Escalade in Dallas. If it doesn't change the out-the-door or the repair estimate, it's noise. PPI guy I use is booked until next week, so I'm waiting.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade and the doc fee was the tell. I'll post OTD once I have two apples-to-apples sheets.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is enough reason to walk. That's where I'd start. This is from a 2022 Cadillac Escalade in Dallas. Happy to compare notes if your setup is different. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. Bill of sale, VIN, odometer, and names matching the title — I'd want all four on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade. Then you'll know the next fork. Post the numbers (or the code) and people can get more specific. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. If the 2022 Cadillac Escalade still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. On “buyer sends a vehicle-history website i have,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Do that first. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Coming back with numbers — insurance in Dallas changed the 2022 Cadillac Escalade comparison more than the sale price did. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2022 Cadillac Escalade and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

That's a good start, but I wouldn't stop there. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Time, temperature, and whether it's in gear are the notes that actually help a shop. A day of patience here is cheaper than a wrong part. I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.
