2022 Honda Accord — dealer keeps discussing monthly payment instead of OTD

RoadOwner328Community StarterDec 27, 20252022 Honda Accord 2.0T SportNorth Jersey
Every time I ask for sale price and fees, the conversation goes back to monthly payment. I am bringing my own financing. Is there any reason not to insist on a full buyer order before going in? I am in North Jersey.

The trap is a pretty payment hiding a worse car price. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 Honda Accord price probably got worse. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Same neighborhood, different next step: Call your insurer in North Jersey before you fall in love with the 2022 Honda Accord. If they balk, that's your answer. On “dealer keeps discussing monthly payment instead of,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. I screenshotted the quote for later.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In North Jersey, insurance quotes flipped a 2022 Honda Accord comparison for me more than the sale price did. Then the comparison gets honest. Was this after sitting overnight? I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2022 Honda Accord numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. On “dealer keeps discussing monthly payment instead of,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Agree — and I'd add this: Ask for out-the-door on the 2022 Honda Accord with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. Do that before you talk monthly again. On “dealer keeps discussing monthly payment instead of,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2022 Honda Accord in North Jersey. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. Call your insurer in North Jersey before you fall in love with the 2022 Honda Accord. If they balk, that's your answer. Any freeze-frame data saved? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

I asked about dealer keeps discussing monthly payment instead of again and they still won't put GAP/add-ons on their own lines. I'm keeping receipts and dates in one folder.

I'd push back a little: I would not wire money until I've seen the 2022 Honda Accord and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Stop there until you know. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Ask for out-the-door on the 2022 Honda Accord with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “dealer keeps discussing monthly payment instead of,” that was the fork that mattered for me. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

If I were shopping this, if they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 Honda Accord price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2022 Honda Accord in North Jersey. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. I'll update if anything new shows up.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Call your insurer in North Jersey before you fall in love with the 2022 Honda Accord. If they balk, that's your answer. Not gospel, but it saved me a headache. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2022 Honda Accord price probably got worse. Screenshot the worksheet if you can.
