2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE — private seller still has a loan on the car

DealBuyer603Community StarterMay 22, 20262022 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 4MATICLas Vegas
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 4MATIC, about 62,500 miles. I like a privately listed car, but the seller still owes money and does not have a clear paper title in hand. What is the safest way to handle payoff, lien release, payment and possession? I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is enough reason to walk. Then you'll know the next fork. On “benz gle — private seller still has,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE in Las Vegas with 62,500 miles. Just my two cents from doing this recently. This is the filter I use when the thread starts repeating itself. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

OP update: I got two written quotes on the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE and the out-the-door gap is bigger than the ads made it look. I screenshotted the quote for later.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE notes. This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

I'd treat this like cash with a paper trail. Meet at a bank or dealer title office for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE, not a parking lot at night. That's where I'd start. On “benz gle — private seller still has,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Keep sale price, fees, and rate as three different conversations. Climate here is different, so treat that as a local data point. If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Private-party deals fail on paperwork, not vibes. A rushed deposit before you can inspect the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is enough reason to walk. I'd do that before spending real money. Any freeze-frame data saved? Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. If they only talk monthly I'm walking.

Walked a dealership this week on the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE (62,500 miles) and the doc fee was the tell. Going to re-read the worksheet tonight.

Don't get cute with the meetup or the payment. If the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE still shows a lien, coordinate payoff with the lender before any cash changes hands. That's where I'd start. Had a similar mess a couple years ago and that's what finally sorted it. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.
