2024 BMW i4 — how much room below MSRP when inventory is normal? — trying to narrow this down

TireWrench724Community StarterFeb 10, 20262024 BMW i4 eDrive40Portland
2024 BMW i4 eDrive40, about 15,000 miles. I am shopping a new car with several similar units sitting nearby. Dealer started at MSRP plus fees. What is the best way to use competing written quotes without turning the process into endless back-and-forth? I would rather test this logically than replace parts.

I would not stare at the monthly. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 BMW i4, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. Have you gotten a second quote in writing? I'm in no rush to be a hero on it.

I would not stare at the monthly. I would not wire money until I've seen the 2024 BMW i4 and the title situation in person or via a trusted PPI. Then the comparison gets honest. This is from a 2024 BMW i4 in Portland with 15,000 miles. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. Calling insurance in the morning before I reply to the desk.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Call your insurer in Portland before you fall in love with the 2024 BMW i4. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Learned this the expensive way on a previous car. If GAP is bundled I'm making them unbundle it.

Treat this like a math problem, not a vibe. Call your insurer in Portland before you fall in love with the 2024 BMW i4. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. This is from a 2024 BMW i4 in Portland with 15,000 miles. A shop burned me once by skipping that step. Might be overthinking it, but I'd rather overthink than overspend.

Insurance and tax belong in the comparison, not as a surprise. Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 BMW i4 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. If they balk, that's your answer. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Verbal 'we'll take care of it' is not a plan. I asked for the buyer’s order in email, not a text.

Get the messy numbers in writing first. GAP, paint, and nitrogen are optional until you run the 2024 BMW i4 numbers without them. If they balk, that's your answer. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. Any freeze-frame data saved? If they get vague again I'm shopping the deal elsewhere.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. If they're pushing term length to shrink the payment, the 2024 BMW i4 price probably got worse. Then the comparison gets honest. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' This is me being the wet blanket on purpose.

Compare apples to apples or you'll get spun. A written buyer’s order on the 2024 BMW i4 is worth more than any verbal “we’ll make it work.” Do that before you talk monthly again. Did the worksheet show tax yet? I'd sleep better after that step, even if it finds nothing. This is the version I'd tell a friend.

Don't send a deposit on a phone quote. If one piece looks too good on the 2024 BMW i4, hunt doc fees, accessories, and the APR next. Then the comparison gets honest. No need to make it theatrical. Make the next action something you can finish this week. If the VIN lookup is clean I'm still doing PPI.

Hard-won lesson from my last deal: Ask for out-the-door on the 2024 BMW i4 with fees, add-ons, and rate on separate lines. I'd rather lose the car than buy a foggy deal. On “how much room below msrp when inventory,” that was the fork that mattered for me. This is from a 2024 BMW i4 in Portland with 15,000 miles. I'd want a dollar figure or a measured spec, not 'should be fine.' If your situation is the opposite, ignore me. I screenshotted the quote for later.

I'd slow the salesperson down here. Two 2024 BMW i4 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. Screenshot the worksheet if you can. This is from a 2024 BMW i4 in Portland with 15,000 miles. If they can't show the line item, I assume it's hiding. If the story changes I'll post the new data.

Walk if they won't put it on a buyer’s order. In Portland, insurance quotes flipped a 2024 BMW i4 comparison for me more than the sale price did. That's the part that actually changes the decision. Do that first. I've seen both outcomes, which is why I'd test instead of assume. Going to compare one more dealer before I decide.

PPI is scheduled. I'm not depositing until I see the 2024 BMW i4 notes. Doc fee is the line I'm watching.

Fair point. Counterpoint: Two 2024 BMW i4 quotes only help if both include tax, title, and the same options. That's the part that actually changes the decision. I'd want that in writing, not as a promise. Your commute and mine probably aren't the same, but the test still applies. Not letting add-ons ride along because everyone does.
